A pedestrian was hit by a car on Monday on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway at Silver Dollar Way, according to a Chico Police Department press release.
Chico police were dispatched to the crash at 5:22 p.m. after receiving several 911 calls about a car hitting a pedestrian. The pedestrian hit by the car was still laying on the roadway when officers arrived, according to the press release.
Witnesses said they saw a man walking across Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway when he was struck by a car driving southbound, according to the press release. The driver of the car, a 34-year-old man from Oroville, stayed on the scene when the accident happened and gave police his statement.
Investigators said that the pedestrian was crossing outside of the unmarked crosswalk the he was hit by a car, according to the press release.
The pedestrian, a 58-year-old man from Chico, was taken to a local hospital and underwent surgery. According to the press release, the man has a fractured neck, complained of back pain, had deformity on his right extremities, and was heavily intoxicated. The Major Accident Investigation Team was called in due to the severity of the pedestrian’s injuries.
The roadway was closed for about three hours, while the scene was investigated. No charges will be filed against the driver of the car.
