A look ahead: Panther basketball boys home tonight

Local high school sports action returns to the basketball courts, soccer fields and wrestling mats this week after the Christmas break.

The action starts early this week with the Chico high girls and basketball teams tipping off against River Valley tonight, at 7 p.m.

The 8-6 Panthers will host River Valley tonight in the non-league matchup while the 9-3 girls team will travel to Yuba City to take on the Falcons.

Boys basketball

League action starts for some teams in the north section. In boys basketball action, Durham goes to Paradise and Corning is at Orland for a couple of 7 p.m. starts.

On the same evening, Las Plumas travels to Wheatland and Sutter is at Gridley for a couple of 7:30 p.m tips.

On Thursday night, both Chico High and Pleasant Valley, open Eastern Athletic League play with home openers.

Foothill is at Chico High, while Shasta is at Pleasant Valley — both games start at 8 p.m. About one hour earlier on Thursday night, Orland visits Willows.

There will also be plenty of boys basketball action on Friday night.

Durham is at Placer, starting at  7 p.m. while Las Plumas is at Sutter, Oroville is at Wheatland and Gridley is at Corning. All of those games will start at 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

On Tuesday night the Paradise varsity girls basketball team will travel to take on Durham at 7 p.m. while Corning will be at Orland for a 6 p.m. tipoff.

Tuesday night’s girls action also features Wheatland at Las Plumas and Gridley at Sutter who will play at 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Durham will step out of league action to travel to Anderson for a 7 p.m. tip. On Thursday night, Willows is at Orland for a 7 p.m. start.

On Friday night both the Pleasant Valley and Chico High start their league action. The Vikings will travel to Shasta while Chico heads to Foothill. Both of those games will tip-off at 8 p.m.

Other games that night are, Sutter at Las Plumas, Wheatland at Oroville and Corning at Gridley. All of those contests will start at 7:30 p.m.

Prep boys soccer

The Pleasant Valley boys soccer team will close out its preseason schedule with a game at Lindhurst on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. Las Plumas is at Wheatland: for a 5 p.m.kickoff. In a couple of 3:15 p.m. starts, Sutter is at Gridley and Orland is at Corning.

On Thursday, Sutter visits Las Plumas: at 4 p.m. while Oroville is at Wheatland and Corning at Gridley. Both games begin at  3:15 p.m

On Friday night both Pleasant Valley and Chico High open their league action at home. Shasta will visit Pleasant Valley, meanwhile, Chico plays host to Foothill with both games starting at 7 p.m.

Orland hosts at Willows at  5:15 p.m.

Prep girls soccer

In girls soccer action on Tuesday, Las Plumas is at Wheatland: (7 p.m.), while Sutter is at Gridley and Orland is at Corning. Both of those games start at 3:15 p.m.

The soccer action is more abundant on Thursday with Sutter at Las Plumas at 6 p.m.; Oroville at Wheatland, Corning at Gridley, and Yreka at Orland with all of them starting at 3:15 p.m.

On Friday night both Chico High and Pleasant Valley kick off Eastern Athletic League play with the Panthers visiting Foothill while the Vikings are on the road at Shasta. Both of those games are set to start at 7 p.m.  Also on Thursday, Orland goes to Willows for a  5:15 p.m.

Prep wrestling

Chico High Will be at Red Bluff on Wednesday night, with Las Plumas at Gridley and Oroville at Orland, both starting at 6 p.m.

On Friday, both Las Plumas and Corning are at the NorCal Championships, while the Oroville Girls are at the Napa Valley Girls Classic, starting at 9:30 a.m.
