Durham pushes unbeaten UPrep but falls 15-8 | Local Roundup

The Durham High Trojans gave the unbeaten University Prep Panthers all they could handle on their home field in the Northern Section Division IV semifinal Friday night, but fell just short 15-8.

The Panthers (12-0) scored first on a 13-touchdown pass to junior running back Ryan Dyab from Peyton Henderson with 3:23 left in the first quarter.

The visiting Trojans scored just before the end of the first quarter on a 40-yard bomb from quarterback Ryan Doyle to Thomas Husa, who beat his man to the middle of the end zone to haul in a perfect pass for the score.

The Trojans scored on a two-point conversion when Brady Webb scored on an end-around to give the Trojans (6-5) an 8-7 lead with 17.3 seconds left in the first quarter.

That’s how the score remained until the fourth quarter when the Panthers got a nine-yard touchdown run from Dyab with 8:43 to go in the game.

The Panthers faked the extra point kick and Chris Jimenez found Scotty James in the back of the end zone for the two-point score and a 15-8 lead.

On the ensuing drive for Durham, the Trojans were able to drive the ball inside the Panther 15-yard line with less than six minutes to go.

But the Panther defense forced a turnover to end the drive and the Trojans offense never got the ball again.
