The Gridley and Las Plumas High School boys soccer teams opened Butte View League play with a draw 3-3 Tuesday afternoon in Oroville.
All six goals between the two teams were scored in the first half, as neither team was able to get the edge in the second half.
Las Plumas’ Carlos Gutierrez Soria scored two goals, giving the junior seven goals in three games after a four-goal game against Foothill on Friday to open the Thunderbirds’ season. Senior Nicolas Zarate scored the third goal for LP, his first of the season.
Alexis Gutierrez Soria and Shawn Curry had one assist each for LP.
Ricardo Ramos, Gilberto Jimenez and Eddie Rodriguez scored one goal each for Gridley. Ramos added two assists.
Gridley goalkeeper Christian Benitez recorded seven saves in the draw.
No goalkeeping stats were recorded for Las Plumas.
Gridley (1-1-1, 0-0-1 BVL) plays next at 5 p.m. Thursday at Pierce.
Las Plumas (1-2-1, 0-0-1 BVL) plays next at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at Orland.
Prep girls soccer
Whitney 5, Pleasant Valley 0: Pleasant Valley lost at home Tuesday night.
The Vikings had seven shots, including three on net in the loss.
PV (0-2) plays next at 11 a.m. Friday in the Foothill tournament.
Prep boys basketball
Mount Shasta 71, Paradise 45: Paradise lost at home Tuesday night. Evan McCutcheon led the Bobcats with 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and five free throws made.
Tristan Jackson scored 10 points and Braden Gonzalez scored seven points.
For Mt. Shasta (4-2), Kellen Riccomini scored 26 points and Cameron Collord scored 19 points.
Paradise (2-3) plays next at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Central Valley tournament against Corning.
Prep girls basketball
Del Oro 60, Pleasant Valley 35: Pleasant Valley lost on Monday night at Del Oro. The Vikings record now sits at 4-4 with Eastern Athletic League play beginning on Jan. 7.
Caitlyn Vickery led PV in scoring with nine points and Mariah Letcher had five points. For Del Oro, Madison Butcher led with 16 points, Gabby Kime had 14 points and Livi Wood had 11 points.
PV plays next at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Calaveras in the Folsom Tournament.
