Highway 70 reopens after rockslide closure

Caltrans announced Thursday that both lanes on Highway 70 are now open to traffic near the Butte/Plumas County Line in the Feather River Canyon.

A rockslide that happened in late October caused the closure. There was also activity that occurred in November that had prolonged the closure of the highway.

Caltrans and its contractors have worked to provide through-traffic access in the area. They conducted scaling, blasting and debris removal operations. In addition, pavement and culvert work have been conducted in the area.

Caltrans said that motorists are still advised to check roadway conditions before traveling into the area. Motorists should also be aware of of burn scar areas along Highway 70 from the Dixie Fire.
