Letter: Not such a Grand Old Party

The GOP, the Grand Old Party. It could also stand for Gibberish (unintelligible or meaningless speech or writing) Or Poppycock (nonsense). I guess it could also be an acronym for Gaslighting Our Principles, as demonstrated by their effort to whitewash the violent assault on the capital and the police duty bound to protect it. But for now let’s focus on Gibberish or Poppycock, for that’s what’s coming out of the mouths of the Republican Congress.

Let’s take health care. Republicans have voted over 70 times to repeal the affordable care act, which keeps growing in popularity, let alone even entertaining the idea of universal health care. The former Rhino-in-Chief promised for his entire time in office of a, “Big, beautiful health care that will be cheaper” – gibberish.  193 countries have universal health care policies in place, to include Ecuador, Namibia and Uzbekistan, but not the United States.

Let’s touch on infrastructure.  The former used to hold “Infrastructure Week” where he would fly around the country giving speeches about himself while deriding organizations and individuals he deemed not loyal to him – poppycock.  As for roads and bridges, under President Biden’s leadership a bi-partisan $1 trillion infrastructure bill has passed in the Senate and is scheduled for a vote in the House next week.

That’s all there’s room for now.  Next up will be “wealth inequality”, the “Water wars looming in the west” or, “American democracy at the doorstep of autocracy – will we soon be going the way of Poland and Hungry? Stay tuned.
