Covid has turned our community upside-down. You can’t, however, keep resourceful Americans down. Despite losing their home and ballet studio to the Paradise fire, Trudi and Wayne Angel, their talented students and guest artists glittered with the magic of Christmas in another wonderful Nutcracker performance last weekend.
The Nutcracker, performed by Northern California Ballet at the Paradise Performing Arts Center, is a Christmas classic. Trudi Angel directed a truly lovely production, with a bit of mischief skillfully synced in.
Wayne Angel, with the assistance of excellent local volunteers, engineered intricate sets to showcase Clara’s journey with the Nutcracker Prince through the land of the Snow Queen and the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Magical Kingdom with its kaleidoscope of fantastical inhabitants.
Mesmerized by their lithe finesse, it’s difficult to remember that they are, for the most part, our local youth, high school and younger, moving with the precision and confidence of professional dancers.
It was a magical performance. Joy, fun and beauty, all the best elements of Christmas, brought to life by our own local talented instructors, apt students and volunteers, showcasing the indomitable spirit of Northern California. Merry Christmas to all.
