Letter: Setting the record straight on Biden

So, you think Joe Biden is an abject failure who’s ruining America? Let’s check the record.

The economy is doing great. Continuing an upward trend, U.S. employers added over half a million jobs last month, with wide-ranging growth in hospitality, professional and business services, manufacturing and transportation. The unemployment rate is down to 4.6 percent. Wage growth is up 4.9 percent from last year. Child poverty’s been cut in half. The stock market is at an all-time high. Economic output (GDP) is above pre-pandemic levels. Yes, inflation’s up a bit, gas prices are higher, and there are supply-chain issues, but all of those were to be expected as the global economy recovered (and consumer demand soared) in the aftermath of the worst pandemic in a century.

Speaking of the pandemic, despite unprecedented misinformation and fear-mongering from the right-wing, nearly 200 million Americans are now fully vaccinated, including 90 percent of people over 65.

Our “forever war” in Afghanistan is over, America is once again a respected leader on the world stage, and the biggest infrastructure bill in history was just signed into law.

If all these accomplishments had occurred while Donald Trump was still president, he’d be boasting loudly and non-stop.  Biden is a much more humble man, but don’t let his modesty (or right-wing talking heads) fool you into thinking that he hasn’t done a great job so far running the country.
