I had to laugh when I read Patrick Newman’s recent letter on “sustainability.” He reminds me of Linus sitting in the pumpkin patch lamenting, “I’m doomed!” Only change that to “We’re doomed!”
Ostensibly, in order to address climate change, Newman calls for a “meaningful conversation” over eating meat, building large houses and addressing purported “excesses” in transportation and how we “amuse” ourselves. One can just imagine how such a “conversation” would go given this self-appointed scold’s predisposition for personal attack and slur mongering for anyone daring not to march to his tune. The malice Newman has exhibited towards the Jesus Center and it’s director, various city council members and climate blogger Anthony Watts in the ER letter’s section alone should give anyone a clue as to his conversational style.
If Newman gets control of the conversation I suggest omnivorous folks with a home large enough to have a chest freezer immediately drive down
to the CSUC farm and buy a side of beef. Seriously, the only “meaningful conversation” this purveyor of climate doomsday hysteria is interested in is to tell you what you can eat, what you can live in, how you may transport yourself and what you are allowed to do in your free time. As if that were any of his business to begin with. No tyranny there, eh?
