Letter: Why give incentives to law-breakers?

Our current administration in Washington is incentivizing law breaking, again. The latest example, buried on page four of Saturday’s E-R, covers their plan to pay those family members separated at the border (after illegally crossing). How much?  $450,000 for each person involved.

These are the people who chose to illegally enter our country!  They violate our borders, break our laws and we pay them almost a half-million dollars each? If one is arrested for DUI or some other offense and a child is with them, they are separated.  It’s part of the price paid for violating the law.  While we don’t compensate the families of fallen law enforcement, firefighters or military to this extent, we will pay those breaking our laws.

A family of four illegally entering our country and separated at the border can expect $1.8 million.  And then they’ll receive welfare and Social Security. What a way to run a country.
