The 49ers have Christmas off this year, but the price is a tight turnaround to face a physical Titans team Thursday night in Nashville.

San Francisco has won five of its last six games, using a bruising ball-control approach to control the action. Jimmy Garoppolo has responded well, playing some of the best football of his career over the last two weeks: 45 of 64 for 531 yards and 3 touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Titans have lost three of their last four, with their only win coming over the reeling Jaguars. Sunday’s 19-13 loss to the Steelers featured three Tennessee turnovers in the game’s final 16 minutes leading to nine Pittsburgh points.

The 49ers will be without rookie running back Elijah Mitchell, whose knee injury is keeping him out a second straight week. The Titans have receiver A.J. Brown back from a chest injury, but they’re missing three starting offensive linemen between injuries and COVID.

Of course, the Titans have been without their big-time running back Derrick Henry since a Halloween foot injury. They’re 3-3 since then after starting the season 6-2.

Follow along with our reporters Cam Inman and Jerry McDonald, columnist Dieter Kurtenbach and other analysts providing their thoughts about the game.
