NFL picks for Week 16: 49ers triumph in Tennessee

Long story short, here are my NFL picks for Week 16:

49ers 27, Titans 26: The 49ers hit Nashville’s stage for the first time since 2013, and look for Nick Bosa to hit Ryan Tannehill enough times to set up the 49ers’ sixth road win this year. Line: Titans +3 1/2

Packers 24, Browns 16: Green Bay is the only NFC team with a playoff berth in hand, and their only road game the rest of the season could be Jan. 9 at Detroit. Line: Packers -7 1/2

Cardinals 29, Colts 23: After giving away a game at Detroit, Arizona’s Kyler Murray gave his offensive linemen custom golf bags and clubs for Christmas. (No official word yet if Jimmy Garoppolo is doing the same for 49ers reporters.) Line: Cardinals -1

Falcons 24, Lions 23: For the first time this season, Atlanta finally wins inside its Mercedes-Benz Stadium – against the team owned by the Fords. Line: Lions +4

Buccaneers 26, Panthers 21: Just when you think injuries could ruin the Bucs’ title defense, you remember Tom Brady is an immortal ring collector. Line: Panthers +10 1/2

Bengals 31, Ravens 29: And the AFC North surprisingly will go to … a Cincinnati team that sweeps the Ravens this season. Line: Ravens +2 1/2

Chargers 33, Texans 20: Still can’t rule out a Chargers-Rams Super Bowl at their SoFi Stadium bungalow. Line: Chargers -10

Rams 27, Vikings 17: Winning with only 87 passing yards from Kirk Cousins can work against the Bears, but that won’t fly against the Rams’ Matthew Stafford. Line: Rams -3

Bills 20, Patriots 16: The Bills beat The Bill, marking their first series split since 2016. Line: Bills +2 1/2

Jaguars 26, Jets 24: This makes it a four-franchise race for the NFL Draft’s No. 1 pick, putting the three-win Jaguars, Jets and Texans just behind the Lions (2-12-1 after this week). Line: Jaguars + 2 1/2

Giants 23, Eagles 21: Saquon Barkley’s ACL comeback (429 yards, 10 games) is not going as well as Nick Bosa’s (15 sacks, 14 games). Line: Giants +10

Seahawks 27, Bears 17: Russell Wilson has thrown only five touchdown passes at home this season; he threw four in a December 2020 win there against the Jets. Line: Seahawks -7

Chiefs 29, Steelers 21: The only other time Patrick Mahomes has faced Steelers sack artist T.J. Watt, Mahomes threw for six touchdown passes and got sacked once (not by Watt) in a 2018 Week 2 win at Pittsburgh. Line: Steelers +10

Raiders 3, Broncos 0: The Raiders are too tired to score a lot after Monday’s walk-off win at Cleveland. The Broncos are too Drew Lock-ed. Line: Raiders – 1/2

Cowboys 31, Washington 21: Nothing screams how soft the NFL has become than looking at NFC East teams brining their own heated benches on the road. Line: Washington +10 1/2

Saints 13, Dolphins 0: After blanking the Bucs, the Saints now shut out another Florida team in back-to-back, prime-time games. Line: Saints -3

Last week: 7-7 straight up, 6-8 against the spread (entering Tuesday’s picks of Rams -4 ½ and Eagles -7)

Season: 123-98-1 straight up, 108-113-1 against the spread (entering Tuesday’s games)
