Pleasant Valley boys basketball upset No. 2 ranked Clovis West | Local roundup

The Pleasant Valley boys basketball team trailed the No. 2 California ranked team Clovis West 18-13 after the first quarter, but the Vikings took a 32-28 lead at halftime and never gave it up.

Pleasant Valley (12-1) defeated previously undefeated Clovis West (15-1) 72-56 at the Modesto Christian tournament Tuesday to advance to the semifinals against Durango (7-3) of Las Vegas, Nevada.

PV outscored the Golden Eagles 19-10 in the second quarter, 18-10 in the third quarter and 22-18 in the final quarter to secure the victory.

Noah Thomas led PV in scoring with 30 points, and Chase Mitchell scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Luke Kremer had a double-double as well, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

PV captain Ned Joyce scored nine points. Vikings’ coach Tim Keating said Joyce was, “instrumental with the press break and finding his teammates with his seven assists.”

PV now plays the No. 3 Nevada ranked team Durango at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The winner will advance to the finals of the Modesto Christian tournament today.

Prep girls basketball

Piedmont 80, Pleasant Valley 58: Pleasant Valley (9-6) lost to Piedmont (6-2) on Tuesday in the West Coast Jamboree.

Senior Mariah Letcher led PV in scoring with 15 points, freshman A.J. Gambol scored 10 points, and Caitlyn Vickery and Maddux Wilson scored nine points each. Ava Dunn added eight points for the Vikings.

For Piedmont, Natalia Martinez scored 28 points, Trinity Zamora scored 24 points and Madison Hill scored 17.

PV plays next at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the West Coast Jamboree at Granada High School.
