PV girls basketball lose 43-41 to Rodriguez

Freshman AJ Gambol scored 15 points to lead Pleasant Valley in a close 43-41 loss to Rodriguez High (Fairfield) on Friday night at Varley Gym.

“They got some easy buckets in the fourth because of the press,” said PV coach Bob Paddock. “We had to foul at the end, being down.”

Fortunately for the Vikings, the visitors missed three free throws giving PV an opportunity to tie the game or win it in the final seconds.

After the third miss, the Vikings got out in transition.

“I had a timeout but decided that we had a better chance to get a good look in transition,” Paddock said.

The Vikings (1-1) did get the look they hoped to get from about the free-throw line but the shot didn’t go in.

Senior Mariah Letcher added eight points for the Vikings.

Vanden 72, Chico 39: The Panthers (0-1) lost to visiting Vanden from Fairfield at the PV tournament on Friday night.
