Reading pals | Snapshots

Discovery Shoppe volunteer Pam Bodnar presented a check for $4,500 to “Reading Pals”. Accepting the check for the group was Michelle Curran. On average, students enrolled in Reading Pals gain one full year of literacy skills in four months. Students and community volunteers read together for one hour per week, in two sessions. The funds will allow Reading Pals to gift each of the 300 4th and 5th-grade students in the program next year a Big Life Journal. Shop volunteer Sadie Urbanowicz sponsored Reading Pals. The Discovery Shoppe is located at 315 Flume Street in Chico and is open Wednesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Discovery Shoppe donated almost $55,000 to 8 charities in November 2021. How to submit a snapshot

Snapshots, reader-submitted photos of community events, are published Monday. They may include service projects, guest speakers at club meetings, awards being presented or kids doing school projects. Just make sure there are people in the photo — no more than 12 — and keep it current.

Send a high-resolution JPG with a paragraph explaining the content of the photo: who (in left-to-right order with last names), what, where, when and why to snapshots@chicoer.com. Non-digital submissions will not be accepted at this time.

We can’t accept photos about businesses, private events or those adorable pet photos.
